Whether we like it or not, pipes and equipment need to be regularly cleaned just like any other part of a building’s infrastructure. If your piping system has any issues, your office or operation could sustain damage. Many professional engineers companies suggest specialty cleaning of HVAC equipment and cleaning of piping anytime a section is drained down or added on to. Be sure to always keep an eye out for indications of corrosion or bacteria through discoloration of water systems. Here are four signs that it’s time for a specialty pipe cleaning.
Signs to Look Out For in a Specialty Pipe
It should be noted that the common signs that a specialty pipe cleaning is needed aren’t simply visual. Some of these signs can also be heard or smelled. In any case, here are some red flags that indicate pipe cleaning is in order.
Water Discoloration in a Speciality Pipe
Black, brown, green, or purple the color of your water can tell a story about the water and system conditions flowing through your pipes. As a condition persists, it leaches its remnants into the water, giving clues to what’s going on inside. Always obtain a sample of water by, purchasing a bottle of drinking water, spilling out its contents, and filling the bottle with system water. This way you know you have a clean sterile bottle (Do not drink out of the bottle). Call the expert, they will test this water and confirm what condition you have
Strong Smells in a Specialty Pipe
Much like other parts of your home (like a closet or refrigerator), foul smells in your pipes are typically a sign of the presence of something that likely shouldn’t be there. Sulfur or rotten egg smell is a sign that something is not right. This is similar to rotting food, waste, or debris that can occasionally become stuck in the drain and eventually draw insects. Unless there are problems with the drainage system itself, the issue likely relates to residue debris which has become food for bacteria which could be hiding underneath deposits in your system. If the water has an odor, there is not a simple or quick fix. This is a serious situation and it is recommended to seek assistance from a professional pipe cleaning company.
Gurgling or Glugging Sounds
If you ever hear this type of sound coming from your pipes while the water goes through them, this indicates a blockage. Air should not be inside your piping system, and if it is due to someone opening or inspecting. It needs to be released through a vent at the top of the system to a proper drain. Blockage in a system is serious business, if your system cannot move the volume of water it is required to, it will increase pressure and put stress on all other components in the system. If the water flow severely reduces it can shut down air conditioning and heating units on high heat pressure and stop heat or cooling wherever flow is reduced. Professional help can make a world of difference.
Water Seepage/Material Crusting
If your water or crusting of material is noticed at the threaded joins or seepage is realized in a straight line. This can be indicative of under deposit corrosion, a condition that exists when systems are not properly maintained and flowing. Threaded joins are the thinnest part of the piping measuring nearly half the thickness. Also, weld seams in certain types of pipes may not have been welded on both sides causing a channel nearly half the thickness of the pipe. Therefore, an expert needs to be called to evaluate these conditions. This is a sign that you need to clean your pipes or replace them. In the latter case, water leaks and damage become more probable.
Equipment Inspection
Regular inspection of stainers, drains, piping, coils, etc. Will lead an expert to the problem Take photos, save strainers and debris. These are the “telltale signs” of what is happening. Any expert will need to gather such data and more to assess the issue.
Regular Maintenance
This can hardly be emphasized enough. Be sure to keep your eyes, ears, and nose wide open for any signs of unusual occurrences. If you let clogs or other similar issues accumulate and go unresolved, your piping system can eventually fall apart and water damage can permeate your building. Routine inspections, water treatment, maintenance, and cleaning can ultimately save you lots of time and money. It is critical not to use an off the shelf product and attempt this work. It is not a “Do It Yourself” kind of remedy. Only an expert should attempt to perform such cleanings.
